The Vanishings

April 22, 2009 by Writers in the Schools

into-smoke-by-dominic-dskyzOne day it will vanish
the smiles from your face
the happiness in your eyes
your genuine touch
the softness in your lips.
One day it will vanish
the quiet dinners
the yelling from your voice
the slamming of the doors
the red in your eyes
the fake smiles.
One day it will vanish
the immaturity in humans
the urge to be popular
the wanting of nothing
the view that it’s never ok
seeing “perfect” as beautiful.
One day it will vanish
the starvation of your neighbor
the killings of your brother
the beatings on your best friend
the cries from your room
the discrimination in your America.
One day it will vanish.
Or will it?
I believe it will
it only takes a piece of motivation from your voice
a smile from your face
a hug saying you will never let go.
We will be free one day
free from hate
free from judgment
free from discrimination.
One day it will vanish
one day I promise.
