EarlyStages, the young audience series at Stages Repertory Theatre, is presenting the world premiere of Odd and the Frost Giants, by Newbery-Award-winning author Neil Gaiman, adapted and directed by WITS Writer Rob Kimbro.  Go see this amazing work and support the arts!

Rob is blogging about the show and retelling some of the Viking myths that inspired it at the Stages Education blog.  The play’s puppet designer, Mary Robinette Kowal (also an author and the VP of the SFWA) is blogging about the show here.

Here’s a recap of the play from Stages’ website:

In the depths of a freezing Nordic winter, a crippled boy named Odd is led by a persistent fox through the forest to save a bear whose paw is stuck in a tree… and thus begins an incredible adventure in which animals morph into ancient gods and travel across rainbows to free Asgard, the city of the gods, from the invading Frost Giants.

It’s going to take a very special kind of twelve-year-old boy to outwit the Frost Giants, restore peace to Asgard, and end the long winter. Someone cheerful and infuriating and clever… someone just like Odd. Inspired by traditional Norse mythology, Odd and the Frost Giants now comes to the stage for the very first time in this clever adaptation rich with puppetry, storytelling, and song.
