Join us in celebrating WITS writer Carmen Jacobsen, who will read from her first book of poems, Saudade, on Tuesday, January 28th, at 7:30 PM!
See press release below for more information:
Carmen Erna Jacobsen was born in Kansas City, Missouri. When she was 4 years old her family moved to Mexico City, where she was raised. Carmen worked for a private English school teaching English-as-a-Second Language to pay her way through medical school. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Sciences at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México in1987.
Carmen writes non-fiction and poetry. She has set up musical plays for a Montessori school at the Bayou Theater at UH Clear Lake and directed a small Ballet Folklorico group named “Aztlan”, where children combined poetry with the Mexican zapateado. She is a Creative Writing Teacher for WITS – Writers in the Schools and a teacher for DPISD. She was an Education writer who did research and wrote articles related to the K-12 public school system for The Rice Entrepreneurship Educational Program Blog.
Carmen is presenting her first completed book on poems called, “Saudade.” It is a collection of poems about how ephemeral human life and relationships can be–a sense of melancholy divided into three time chapters, longings from things in the past, its yearnings into the present and its transcendence into the future.
Please support the arts on the Texas Gulf Coast and join us for an evening of great poetry.
